Salford Red Devils Community Stadium has been announced as one of the eight venues that will host the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2025. The stadium will host matches along with Twickenham stadium in London, and Sunderland's Stadium of Light.

Organisers have made an effort to have host stadiums which are located across the country. Other stadiums included are Franklin’s Gardens in Northampton, Sandy Park in Exeter, and the York Community Stadium.

The Salford Community Stadium is home to rugby league side Salford Red Devils and rugby union outfit Sale Sharks. It opened in 2012 and has capacity for over 12,000 supporters and hosted the World Rugby U20 Championship in 2016, the last time England won international men’s rugby’s leading age grade competition.

Sale Sharks’ Women’s Performance Lead Katy Daley-Mclean said: “The World Cup is the pinnacle for any player and we know that it is really important for generating interest in the women’s game too.

“We are so passionate and committed to growing the game in the north of England so to have the biggest games and the best players coming to Manchester and to the Salford Stadium is massive for us. I have no doubt Manchester will be the perfect host city.”

Sale’s England Rugby World Cup 2021 and Six Nations Grand Slam-winning back row and Morwenna Talling said: “Northern rugby matters so it’s amazing that Salford Stadium will be a host venue at the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup. North-west rugby is on the rise and we can’t wait to share that experience with you in two years’ time.”
