Greater Manchester Museum of Transport to host Twilight Buses event - ticket prices and how to get to museum

The museum will be open late for one day only giving passengers the chance for the special experience.

The Museum of Transport in Greater Manchester is keeping its doors open late this Saturday (October 21) for a special event. The museum will host a day of ‘Twilight Buses & Trams’. 

The museum will stay open until 8pm and will be open from 10am. During the day and into the evening, visitors will have the chance to ride the museum's buses. The Transport museum have said that this will be a unique chance to ride one of their classic buses in the dark

During the day, there will be photography demonstrations and a range of second hand books focused around transport for sale. Hot and cold refreshments will also be available to keep you fed and watered on your visit. 

The buses will run to and from Heaton Park Tramway throughout the day. This bus will start from the museum at 10.15am and run hourly until 4.15pm, when it will run every 20 minutes until 7.15pm.

Entry to the event will cost the same as a standard visit to the museum. This is £6 for adults, £5 for students and jobseekers (with proof of status) and free for disabled people and children under 16. 

Getting to the Transport Museum

For the event, the museum has asked if visitors can arrive via public transport. This is due to parking at the museum being extremely limited.

The nearest Metrolink stop to the museum is Queens Road which is around a 10 minute walk away. Buses stop off at the Bignor Street stop which is just across the road from the museum. 

Heritage Bus 3 will operate on a park and ride shuttle route between the Museum, Queens Road Metrolink stop and the Irish World Heritage Centre. From the Museum of Transport, this will be up to every 15 minutes between 1.03pm and 8.03pm. 

Free parking will be available at the Irish World Heritage Centre during this event. According to the museum, buses from the Museum will call on Queens Road at the Irish World Heritage Centre (Clibran Street stop, eastbound) and Queens Road Metrolink stop (Smedley Rd stop A). 

Buses to the Museum will call on Queens Road at Queens Road Metrolink stop (Smedley Rd stop B) and the Irish World Heritage Centre (Clibran Street stop, westbound).
