Runners from all over the country, at all different levels are gearing up for the Great Manchester Run 2022.

The event allows participants to enter a 10k race or choose to do a half marathon, and the 2021 Great Manchester Run, which took part in September 2021, saw tens of thousands of spectators line the streets of Manchester to cheer them on.

Runners who fancy giving themselves a bigger challenge can choose to tackle the Great Manchester Half Marathon on the same day.

This is only the second time the run has taken place since 2019, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and is back properly this year, as Covid restrictions have eased since the last run.

There’s plenty for everyone at the race, with live-music and street food available, creating a great vibe on the day.

As well as the main event for adults, there are also mini and junior races for kids the day before the main events.

So, when is the half marathon and 10k, what are the start times, what’s the route and will there be road closures?

When is the Great Manchester Run?

This year, the Great Manchester Run is set to take place in Manchester on Sunday, May 22, 2022.

People of a younger age will also have the opportunity to take part in mini and junior races the day prior to this, on Saturday, May 21.

The half marathon is the first run to set off, as it begins early at 8:30am, and the 10K starts at a much more favourable time, as it begins at 11:30am.

Of course, there is no official end time as it only ends when the last person crosses the line.

Coincidentally, it falls on the fifth anniversary of the tragic Manchester Arena bombing, where over 20 people lost their lives at an Ariana Grande concert in 2017, so there may be extra motivation for this years runners.
