Former Manchester United defender and football pundit Gary Neville is switching the commentary box for the business suite. The Sky Sports commentator makes his first appearance on BBC’s Dragons' Den on Thursday night.

Neville will make a guest appearance on the long-running show, in which people pitch their business ideas to the ‘Dragons’ in hopes of receiving investment. He is no stranger to business ownership or investment, having a 10% ownership of Salford City FC with former United team mates Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and David Beckham among many other interests.

The ex-footballer will be sat alongside Den heavyweights Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden, Touker Suleyman, Sara Davies, and Steven Bartlett. Neville has said that he is looking forward to seeing what people have to offer him.

Gary said: “It’s a pleasure to join the Dragons as a guest for the new series and see some of the amazing pitches from budding entrepreneurs from different walks of life. It was a privilege to share my knowledge and guidance with the brave entrepreneurs who entered the Den, but you’ll have to wait and see whether I commit to any investments!”

Neville is one of two guest ‘Dragons’ who will appear on this series of the show, which is its 21st. CEO and co-founder of the denim company Good American Emma Grede will also be looking for good business opportunities to invest in.

Samantha Davies, Executive Producer, BBC Studios, says: “In our 21st series it’s hugely exciting to bring a fresh, new dynamic to the Den in the form of Guest Dragons. Gary and Emma are both masters in their fields and it’ll be fantastic to see their different styles and perspectives in the business world. But our existing Dragons aren’t just going to sit back and let them snap up all the best deals, so viewers can expect all the usual competitiveness and sass in the Den.”

How to watch Gary Neville on Dragon’s Den

You can catch Gary Neville as he becomes the first ever guest ‘Dragon’ on Thursday, January 18, on BBC One. The show begins at 8pm, and you’ll also be able to watch online and through BBC iPlayer.
