Music isn’t the only event to grace Co-op Live, but boxing will need to wait a bit longer for its debut

Jack Catterall v Regis Prograis was due to take place on Saturday August 24. However Catterall, who is from Chorley, has been forced to pull out due to injury.

The pair were due to create a bit of history with the fight, which would have been the first boxing night ever to take place at Co-op Live. The Super-Lightweight clash would have come weeks after UFC 304 gripped fans until the early hours.

In a statement on social media, Catterall announced he was unable to fight.

He said: “For the first time in my 30 fight career, I’ve had to withdraw due to injury. I want to apologise to everyone who’s bought tickets and made plans to come to the fight.

“Refunds are available from point of purchase. I’m hoping to have a new date very soon. Apologies to my opponent Regis. My health comes first and I always want to ensure I’m at 100% walking into the ring. Thanks again for your continued support, see you all very soon.”

Chorley's boxing heroJack Catterall, held a number of titles at light welterweight, including the European belt, before controversially being adjudged to have lost to Josh Taylor on points for the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO and The Ring light-welterweight titles.
