National Express: extra seats on popular routes to Manchester city centre and airport ahead of Christmas
This decision from the coach travel provider comes in response to competitor Megabus announcing it is to reduce routes across the country. National Express have said they ‘recognise the need’ for more capacity on inter-city travel routes.
From December 4, thousands of additional seats per week will be added on its popular routes between Manchester, Manchester Airport, Birmingham and London. This could prove to be useful for people travelling in the run up to the festive period.

Journeys from Manchester to Birmingham take between two hours and two hours 45 minutes with National Express. Services from Manchester to London are around five hours in total.
Ed Rickard, Network Director at National Express, said: “We recognise the growing need for reliable, affordable and convenient public transport options. By increasing capacity and frequency on our key intercity and airport routes, we’re making it even easier for people to get to where they need to be. We’re expecting to see strong demand and have the flexibility to add more capacity when needed, especially as people start to make travel plans for the festive season.”
Ed added: “As the nation’s favourite coach travel company, savvy travellers can look forward to the highest standards in safety and comfort on board. We’re excited to welcome new and existing customers and let us do the driving so that they can enjoy a relaxing journey to their destinations.”
