On a sunny evening in Nottingham, Manchester Originals have been put into bat by the hosts Trent Rockets. Both teams could do with a win to take advantage of what is a very tight table at the moment.

Phil Salt and captain Jos Buttler opened the batting for the Originals against a star-studded Rockets side. Luke Wood opened from the Radcliffe Road end- Salt dispatched the first ball of the evening for 4. Salt looked in no mood to stick around and the fourth ball was launched high and far for 6, this was followed immediately by a lovely cut shot for 4.

Two straight boundaries became three when he lifted the ball over the infield to move to 18 from just 6 balls. Two more aggressive boundaries had Salt on 26 from 9 and with the 10th ball of the night came yet another 4- the opener had all 30 of the Original's runs.

Samit Patel was given the ball, but it was the same outcome as this time Buttler got in on the action with a huge 6 into the despairing Rockets fans.

The Originals captain couldn't build on his first ball 6, and he chipped the ball to Sohdi off the bowling of Sams for just 11. Originals 42-1 and Max Holden joined Salt out in the middle.

Salt took on Patel hitting 4 consecutive 4's as he raced to 47 from 17 and off Sohdi he was dropped - a huge lifeline for the inform batter. His 50 came from a huge 6 from a free-hit and it came from just 20 balls. 68-1 from just 27 balls.

With the 36th ball Holden was almost caught with a superb diving effort at Gully, but Wood couldn't quite keep hold of it. 92-1. A pull for 4 brought up the Originals 100 from just 42 balls, and Salt moved onto 76 from just 29- a powerful drive down the ground made this 80 from 30.

Not wanting to take his foot off the gas, Salt then hit a huge 6 back down the ground towards the media centre at Trent Bridge. The very next ball, he was bowled by Cook trying to play off his pads. A superb innings of 86 from 32 came to an end, and Laurie Evans was the new man in.

At the half way point, Originals reached 116-2, and Holden was caught in the deep trying to keep the momentum going. He scored 14 from 10 and Ashton Turner joined Evans in the Nottingham sun.

Evans and Turner needed to rebuild their sides innings, and the runs ticked off mainly from Patel. Turner hit a 6 back towards the media centre with the 65th ball to take the Originals over 130, but like so often in this sport a high was followed immediately by a low. Turner played a lofted shot out towards the boundary only to be caught comfortably by Lewis Gregory. Originals 133-4.

With 25 balls remaining in their innings, the Originals had moved onto 148-4 with a good chance to kick on and get a strong first innings total. As the balls ticked away, the slower ball did for Evans who was bowled by Sams for 14- Jamie Overton partnered Walter out in the middle with 20 balls remaining.

Gregory and Luke Wood tightened up the Originals, but a crisp hit from Walter flew away for 4 with the 89th ball of the innings. With 10 balls to go, the Originals were 166-5. The 175 for the Originals was brought up with 5 balls remaining, and Luke Wood bowled the last balls of the innings. The first of the final 5 was a superb delivery to Overton which cut back off the pitch and bowled the big all-rounder, Usama Mir the new man in.

The Originals finished their innings on 181-6.

The Originals made the perfect start with the ball as Josh Tongue dismissed danger-man Alex Hales with the first ball of the innings. Tom Kohler-Cadmore joined Joe Root out in the middle and Root lit up the Nottingham evening with a scrumptious scoop for 4.

Following a good start, the Original's fielding turned sloppy with mis-fields and an overthrow running away for 4. 41-1 from 24 balls and the batters were enjoying themselves.

Without being threatened too much by the Originals, the pair moved the Rockets onto 65-1 from 38 balls. A breakthrough was needed by the visitors, and the very next ball after typing this they got it. Root tried sweeping Walter but he only succeeded in feathering the ball to Buttler behind the stumps. Colin Munro was the next Rocket to the crease.

The wicket of Root seemed to spur on Kohler-Cadmore who hit consecutive 4's off Usama to leave the Rockets on 84-2 at the half way stage. A huge 6 off the 59th ball nudged Kohler-Cadmore to the brink of 50, and an easy single confirmed it, from just 30 balls. 82 needed from 40 balls for the Rockets.

The poor fielding continued and a slip from Turner was followed by the ball passing through Buttler and running away for 4. With 25 balls remaining, the match was finely poised but with wickets in the bag the Rockets looked the more likely to get the job done.

Munro had made a quiet start to his innings, but a slogged effort for 6 over mid-wicket moved him onto 25 from just 16 balls. 42 runs from 20 balls was the equation for the hosts, and the Munro/ Kohler-Cadmore partnership stood at 74 from just 40 balls.

The 85th ball of the innings was crunched away for 6 by Munro and the odds looked increasingly in the Rocket's favour- but the next ball he was given out for an edge, Munro wasn't sure, however, and he reviewed it. On second look, it was clear there was a nick, and he departed for 36. Daniel Sams joined Kohler-Cadmore with 28 runs needed from 13 balls.

Josh Tongue was having a great night with the ball, and it got even better when he teased Kohler-Cadmore into a mistimed shot whch went high into the sky and was caught in the deep, he had to go for a classy 64. Rockets 157-4 with 10 balls left. The Rockets had two fresh batters at the crease in Sams and now Sam Hain.

The Trent Bridge faithful breathed a huge sigh of relief when Sams hit a full-toss into the stands to make the equation 15 from 6 balls, and 14 was needed from the final 5. Paul Walter was tasked with bowling the final deliveries.

The first 3 balls went for just a run each as good field placement and economical bowling prevailed, meaning 11 was still needed from the final 2 balls. The 4th ball was a dot, meaning only a miracle could save the Rockets. Sams was caught from the final ball and the Originals won by 10 runs.
