Funded by Arts Council England, The Rugby League World Cup Cultural Festival will bring together audiences of sport and art to showcase the history and atmosphere of the highly anticipated tournament across Newcastle, Hull, Leeds and Manchester.

It will amplify the strapline of The Power of Together, celebrating inclusivity and positive social impact.

The festival will be delivered via three different strands – The Power of Connecting, The Power of Poetry, and The Power of Performance: This Is Us.

People from across the UK from all backgrounds are being invited to get involved in the large-scale spectacular alongside a team of professional performers, helping to bring the energy, atmosphere, and passion.

From community groups to sports teams and budding street performers, the festival is currently recruiting for participants within each of the four cities, with no former dance experience required, to take part in the ‘Power of Performance’.

All volunteers will receive training and coaching to allow them to take part in the momentous occasion.

GET INVOLVED: Participants are being asked to register interest in being a performer in the festival, online at www.pinwheel.org.uk/rugby-league-world-cup.

The Power of Performance: This Is Us, which aims to bring the atmosphere and energy of the sport into the streets of each of the four host cities, will use dance, aerial performance, special effects, music, poetic text and exciting staging and design.

It will tell three distinct stories about rugby league – its origins as a working-class game, how the game became more inclusive through pioneering players, and the special connections between players and the fans.

The show will explore how the game has evolved from its roots into the diverse and inclusive sport we see today which inspires such passion in its fans, and the tries and the triumphs which have led to this point.

Each zone will be a separate area, close enough to each other that audiences can easily move between them. It is anticipated that over the two-hour run, the show could see audiences of up to 10,000.

Sport and art fans from all backgrounds are being encouraged to take part in this powerful mass participatory project led by a central company of professional dancers and performers, as well as the large participant cast for each location.

There will be part of approximately 150 participants per city, including a mix of local community groups, rugby teams and fan clubs, choirs, and street bands.

Absolutely no former dance experience is required and choreography can be adapted for people of all abilities and experience. Rehearsals promise to be a fun, welcoming, unique and memorable experience.

Organisers are looking for men’s, women’s and wheelchair rugby league teams, fan clubs, community groups of all kinds and Individuals.
