The Great Manchester Run and 10k event are taking place this weekend, and those taking part will be completing their final preparations before the big day.

The races are showpiece running events in the city, and will see runners take in some of the top sights of Manchester.

Certain roads will be closed across the city to help keep runners and spectators safe.

Here is what we know about which roads are closed, and where the races will start and finish.

The two running events take place on Sunday 22 May along routes which will navigate runners through the city.

What is the route for the half marathon?

Beginning on Portland Street in the city centre, the 13.1 mile route takes runners past Manchester Piccadilly Station and out towards The Etihad Stadium.

Once they reach the stadium they will begin to come back towards the city centre and then back in front of Piccadilly Station and then Oxford Street station.

The 10 mile mark will see runners head past Old Trafford before looping around The Imperial War Museum, Salford Quays.

They will then begin the home stretch towards the finish line, which is at Deansgate.

What is the 10k route?

Starting on Portland Street, runners will head south west past Oxford Road Station and towards Old Trafford.

The halfway point of the 10K route is located between Old Trafford and Media City.

The final kilometre for runners takes them back up Chester Road A56 and towards the finish line at Deansgate.

Medical points, hydration stations and showers are depicted on both maps showing the routes.

Which roads are closed for the race?

Manchester City Council has announced which roads will be closed to help accommodate the event on 22 May.
