Plenty of Manchester City and Manchester United Women’s stars played a key role in the victorious Women’s Euro 2022 Lionesses squad – here’s how you can see them in league action in 2022

The nation’s eyes were drawn to all things women’s football this summer as the Lionesses championed UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 with an historic extra-time victory over Germany on 31 July. Now the attention shifts to the fast-approaching Women’s Super League, and Manchester’s two best teams are eyeing success.

Manchester City winger Chloe Kelly scored the all-important, title-winning goal for England, and now the focus will very much be on how she and numerous other Lionesses stars get on in the forthcoming domestic season.

Manchester City Women and Manchester United Women have established themselves as two of the country’s best sides and between them, they host 10 of those named in England’s Women’s Euro 2022 squad. With finishing positions of third and fourth place respectively in last season’s Women’s Super League standings, the two Manchester teams certainly aren’t short of talent.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Manchester women’s sides and how you can keep up with them ahead of the 2022/23 season.

When does the 2022 Women’s Super League start?

Those who are eager to get stuck into the 2022 WSL won’t have to wait too long as it commences in five weeks’ time, on 11 September. Man City Women and Man Utd Women make up two of the 12 teams in the division.

All 12 sides will play each other twice throughout the season - once at home and once away - before reaching the final league standings at the end of the campaign. Teams that finish in the top three will qualify for next season’s installment of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

How can I watch Manchester City Women in 2022?

City’s home fixtures in the Women’s Super League, Women’s Champions League, and the Vitality Women’s FA Cup will be played at The Academy Stadium, on the Etihad Campus. Tickets for Manchester City Women’s games are available to purchase on Manchester City’s ticket website.

Fixtures in the WSL will also be available to watch live on TV, with a variety of fixtures to be shown on Sky Sports, BBC, and The FA Player. Sky Sports show two games per week, whereas BBC air one. The FA Player picks up the remaining matches.

How can I watch Manchester United Women in 2022?

  • Ellie Roebuck: 22-year-old goalkeeper; The Lionesses’ back-up ‘keeper has played for Team GB at the Olympics.
  • Demi Stokes: 30-year-old defender; an iconic figure for Man City with over 100 appearances.
  • Alex Greenwood: 28-year-old defender; has played for Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool, and Everton throughout her career.
  • Keira Walsh: 25-year-old midfielder; assisted the opening goal in the Women’s Euro 2022 final.
  • Ellen White: 33-year-old forward; has been named England’s international player of the year on three occasions.
  • Lauren Hemp: 21-year-old forward; voted as one of the 10 most promising young players in Europe back in 2020.
  • Chloe Kelly: 24-year-old forward; scored the winning goal in the Women’s Euro 2022 final.
