Former Manchester United star Patrick Evra has warned England they face a tough test against Senegal and they will have to be at their best to seal progression to the last eight of the World Cup.

The Three Lions are huge favourites even though lead striker Harry Kane is yet to find the back of the net here in Qatar. Gareth Southgate has an impressive record with England at major tournaments. In Russia he led the team to four place and lost the Euro final to Italy only on penalties, the World Cup in Russia is when everything is expected to come together for him but Evra says the African Champions are more than capable of upsetting Southgate’s side.

Patrice Evra said: “Senegal has many players who play in Europe and that makes a difference. The difference for this game will be that if England put more passion and heart than Senegal, they will win the game.

“If England fails to concentrate, Senegal will upset England. It’s a big trap. England will have to be 100% focused, they have to be in top form. Then they can beat Senegal. I’m sure Southgate will make sure his team doesn’t fall into the trap. The trap is real. I will be happy if a team wins, but of course it would be a really proud moment if Senegal beat England.”

Senegal lost their leader and inspiration Sadio Mane just days before a ball was kicked in Qatar and tried as they did to have him with, it was confirmed he needed surgery. Another player who will be missing is Idrissa Gueye who is suspected while there are doubts to the health of former Crystal Palace and now Nottingham Forest midfielder Cheikhou Kouyaté
