Ronaldo spoke to the club following his return and said: “Manchester United is a club that has always had a special place in my heart, and I have been overwhelmed by all the messages I have received since the announcement on Friday.

“I cannot wait to play at Old Trafford in front of a full stadium and see all the fans again.

“I’m looking forward to joining up with the team after the international game, and I hope we have a very successful season ahead.”

Ronaldo kick-started his career when he signed for Manchester United back in 2003, spending six years with the Premier League side before making the switch to La Liga giants Real Madrid.

What will Cristiano Ronaldo’s salary be?

Early reports suggested Cristiano Ronaldo would earn a staggering £480,000 per week on his return to Manchester United.

However, it has now emerged that the 36-year-old will be on a lucrative £385,000 a week deal - taking a £6 million pay cut after earning a huge £500,000 a week during his time with Juventus.

Despite the pay cut, Ronaldo will still be Manchester United’s highest earner ahead of David De Gea - who is on £375,000 a week.

At present, striker Edison Cavani wears the number 7 jersey, however it is likely it will be handed over to the Portuguese international.

With Dan James set to sign for Leeds United today, it has been suggested that the Welshmen’s No.21 could be handed to Cavani - who wears the number 21 for Uruguay - while Ronaldo takes back his famous number 7 shirt.

While nothing is confirmed yet, it is unlikely that Manchester United and Ronaldo will allow the end of the notorious CR7.
