England’s Women’s side made history on Tuesday night when they reached the final of Euro 2022, after beating Sweden 4-0 in the semi-final.
Goals from Beth Mead, Lucy Bronze, Alissia Russo and Fran Kirby ensured the Lionesses progressed to Sunday’s showpiece event at Wembley.
England’s run so far has gripped the attention of the nation, with the 4-0 scoreline dominating social media and national headlines.
Sarina Wiegman’s side will find out on Wednesday night who they’ll play in Sunday’s final, with Germany or France set to be their opponent.
But much of England’s success this summer comes from Manchester-based players, with eight of the 23-player squad coming from either Manchester United or Manchester City, including Alessia Russo, who scored that audacious back-heel against Sweden on Wednesday.
All eight could be involved in the final, and here are the stars doing Manchester proud on the international stage…
1. Mary Earps
The United goalkeeper has been Wiegman’s first choice between the sticks during the competition, conceding just once.
2. Keira Walsh
The City midfielder has been one of England’s unsung heroes in the competition so far and is expected to start in a midfield three again.
3. Ellen White
The City forward has scored two goals so far in the competition and sits just two away from breaking Wayne Rooney’s record as England’s all-time leading scorer.
4. Lauren Hemp
The City winger has been dangerous for the Lionesses down the left, scoring once and providing the same number of assists.
