Will Casemiro make his Man Utd debut against Southampton this weekend?

Casemiro has now officially signed for Manchester United, and here we take a look at when the midfielder could make his debut.

Manchester United have made a big statement with the signing of Real Madrid star Casemiro.

The Red Devils have had a slow summer transfer window, but they are now making progress ahead of the deadline, which is in just a eight days’ time.

United came into the summer knowing they needed midfielders amid the departures of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, and they spent much of their time chasing Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong, a move that, to date, still has not come through.

In the meantime, United have turned their attention to the other side of the Clasico divide, snapping up Madrid legend Casemiro.

Casemiro won five Champions League titles at the Bernabeu, and he will bring a wealth of experience to Old Trafford.

But when will he make his debut? Here’s what we know.

What has Casemiro said?

Casemiro told United’s website: “The opportunity to start a new challenge at Manchester United and in the Premier League is extremely exciting.

“I have worked with many great managers in my career and, having met with Erik and heard his ideas, I can’t wait to work closely with him, his staff and my new team-mates in the coming years.

“I’m ending one beautiful journey in Madrid whilst starting another in Manchester as determined as ever to win football matches, win trophies and make our fans proud by bringing success to this great club.

“Everybody knows the history of Manchester United, the significance of the club around the world and what it means to its supporters. To represent United is an honour and I am ready to give everything to help the team achieve our ambitions.”

What have United said?

Red Devils football director John Murtough has said: “Casemiro is a serial winner and one of the best midfielders in world football; his exceptional record speaks for itself.

“He compliments the skillsets of the squad and will be a great addition to the dressing room with his experience, knowledge and character.

“I know that Casemiro remains as determined as ever to be successful on the pitch and we look forward to seeing that happen in a Manchester United shirt.”

Will Casemiro make his debut against Southampton?

Whether or not Casemiro will play against Southampton this weekend is dependent on Ten Hag’s selection, with the transfer fully completed on Monday.

The United manager may opt to stick with the same midfield three that started in the win over Liverpool: Scott McTominay, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes.

Casemiro is expected to be in squad and make his debut on Saturday, but whether that’s from the bench or as a starter is unknown.
