Man Utd face Manchester City in the Premier League fixture on Sunday afternoon.

Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho have both not been named in the Manchester United squad for their derby fixture against Man City on Sunday afternoon.

United are back in action when they take on their noisy neighbours at the Etihad Stadium, with boyhood fan Rashford and academy graduate Garnacho left out of Ruben Amorim's match day squad entirely.

Amorim has made three changes from the team that came from behind to defeat Viktoria Plzen in midweek, with Harry Maguire, Manuel Ugarte, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund starting in place of Tyrell Malacia, Casemiro, Joshua Zirkzee and Rashford.

It is understood both Rashford and Garnacho took part in training at Carrington over the weekend, though United sources insist they have only been left out of the final matchday squad for ‘selection’ purposes, rather than any other reason.

Speaking ahead of the match Amorim told Sky Sports: "Selection. We try to evaluate everything: training, performance, game performance, engagement with the team-mates, pushing the team-mates up. Everything is on the line when we analyse and try to choose the players, so that is my selection. Simple.

"I don't want to send a message. It's simply an evaluation, and they know it. The players are really, really smart. Everybody understands my decision. I have to choose. It's just simple selection. The context is difficult. We have to win games and we have a difficult situation. I pay attention to everything, the way you eat, the way you put on your clothes to go the game. Everything. I make my evaluation and then I have to decide. I have a lot of players to choose."

United XI: Onana; De Ligt, Maguire, Martinez; Mazraoui, Ugarte, Fernandes, Dalot; Amad, Mount, Hojlund.

Subs: Bayindir, Lindelof, Malacia, Yoro, Casemiro, Eriksen, Mainoo, Antony, Zirkzee.
