Why Facundo Pellistri's Man Utd loan exit has 'stalled'

The Uruguayan has fallen down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag and looks set to leave Man Utd on loan this month.

Facundo Pellistri's loan move to Granada has 'stalled' amid a dispute over coverage of the winger's wages, according to reports.

Pellistri has looked set to leave Manchester United this month after falling down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag. The 22-year-old has just three starts under his belt this season, the last of which came against Crystal Palace in September.

A number of clubs had been linked with a move for Pellistri this month, namely PSV Eindhoven and LA Galaxy. But Granada looked to have won the race when reports suggested they had agreed a loan deal for the Uruguayan.

But now The Daily Mail reports that talks have hit a wall with the Spanish side offering to pay a small percentage of Pellistri's wages. The two clubs remain in talks but there is also concern regarding the level of cover on the right, particularly given Omari Forson's contract uncertainty.

Forson's current deal expires in the summer and is yet to agree a new deal, meaning he could leave United on a free at the end of the season. Should that scenario remain, then Ten Hag will have to consider the 19-year-old's role in the squad, given they may not reap any benefits of blooding the youngster between now and June.

United have already lost Jadon Sancho, who would usually be Antony's main competitor on the right, this month but welcomed Amad Diallo back from a long-term injury in December. The Ivorian made his first appearance off the bench against Nottingham Forest.

That Ten Hag decided to bring Amad on over Pellistri suggested he preferred the former and that return to fitness may have been what paved the way for Pellistri's exit. United have done business with Granada recently, having sent Alvaro Fernandez out on loan there before recalling him this month. The left-back has since joined Benfica on loan with an option to buy in the summer.
