A look ahead to the Carabao Cup final between Manchester United and Newcastle United

Manchester United lock horns with Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley. They are in the hunt for their first trophy under Erik ten Hag.

It has been well documented that their opponents haven’t won anything since 1969. However, how long as it been since the Red Devils got some silverware?

The last time United won something was back in February 2017 when they beat Southampton 3-2 in a thrilling League Cup final six years ago. They were managed by Jose Mourinho at the time.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic opened the scoring after just 18 minutes and it looked like it would be a routine afternoon when Jesse Lingard made it 2-0 before half-time. The Saints fought back though and levelled at 2-2 after a brace by Manolo Giabbiadini.

United won it in with three minutes left though when Ibrahimovic pounced again. They have won this competition five times in the past and have their sights set on making it six against Eddie Howe’s Newcastle.

The Toon Army have been in fine form in the Premier League this term and are on course of reaching Europe. Their fans are dreaming of winning something though and have travelled down to the capital in large numbers.
