Manchester United will face Scottish giants Rangers in a pre-season friendly fixture in Edinburgh this summer. The two sides will face each other at Scottish Gas Murrayfield on Saturday 20 July ahead of United's pre-season trip to the United States. It will be the first time United have met Rangers in over a decade, with the last meeting coming in 2010, when a late Wayne Rooney penalty at Ibrox gave United a 1- 0 aggregate win in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League.

The friendly fixture marks a second successive summer visit to Murrayfield for United after last July’s 1-0 win over French Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais in front of 50,000 fans at the traditional home of Scottish rugby. United will then head out to the United States where they will face Arsenal in Los Angeles on 27 July and Liverpool in South Carolina on 3 August.

Speaking after the fixture announcement, former United defender Wes Brown said: “Two of the biggest clubs in British football coming together in the Scottish capital is one of those can’t-miss occasions for any football fan. Last year, when United faced Olympique Lyonnais, the fans' support was fantastic, and I am sure, alongside the Rangers’ fans, the atmosphere at this year’s game will be incredible.”

Reflecting on the last meeting between the two sides, Rangers great Lee McCulloch added: “I remember it like it was yesterday, playing United in 2010. While the result didn’t go the way we wanted, it was a brilliant occasion, and a powerful representation of the strength of both sides as powerhouses in their respective nations."

Pre-sale tickets for the match can be purchased by club season ticket holders, official members and members of the club’s official supporter’s clubs from today, General sale tickets can be purchased from 10am on Friday 22nd March.
