Manchester United have played their final group game of this season’s Europa League. They travelled to San Sebastian, where they faced group leaders Real Sociedad.

The Red Devils needed to win by two clear goals to leapfrog them into first place after they were beaten 1-0 by the Spaniards in September. However, an early goal by Alejandro Garnacho proved to be all they could come up with, and they had to settle for a 1-0 victory.

The Argentine was a huge positive for United at the Estadio Anoeta as he netted his first senior goal in only his second appearance for the club, with his childhood hero Cristiano Ronaldo providing him with the assist. While the teenager will be thrilled with his performance, he will be disappointed he couldn’t add to his tally in Spain.

With Erik Ten Hag’s side failing to take top spot in Group E, it means they will have to compete in a two-legged play-off round against those who are dropping down to from the Champions League. Meanwhile, Real Sociedad and the other group winners will progress straight through to the Round of 16.

With the group stage now all done and dusted, we take a look at all the key information about the upcoming Europa League draw and who United could face.

Who could Man Utd face in the Europa League play-offs?

Following the conclusion of the group stage, there are now eight runners-up - including United - and another eight that finished in third place in their Champions League group and will now compete for a place in the Round of 16. The Red Devils will have desperately wanted to avoid the play-off round this season due to the high quality of teams that have been knocked out of the UCL.
