Burnley manager Vincent Kompany is set for a hostile reception when he takes his side to face Manchester United in the Premier League this weekend.

The Man City legend will no doubt relish the opportunity to play pantomime villain as he looks to pile more misery on his fierce rivals and earn Burnley some valuable points in the battle for survival.

Kompany's side are currently 19th in the top-flight, but just three points from safety, albeit Nottingham Forest have a superior goal difference. If they are to survive they will most likely need to better two of Forest's results in the final four matches of the season, and avoiding defeat at Old Trafford would be a huge statement of intent.

The Burnley boss laughed when inevitably asked about his own rivalry with United ahead of the match, but reiterated that the game will only be decided by the players on the pitch.

"I am going to get this question for the rest of my life, innit?" he joked at his pre-match press conference. "It's a meaningful game, it's been a meaningful game for many years in my life but it is really about Burnley, Burnley facing United on the day and for this club I really want to be successful there on Saturday."

"Different eras, different teams, different players. For me, the fact you've been there so many times obviously as a manager you do keep that experience as a player. That is not the case for my players, so I have to transfer something into them so they feel like this is a game that they belong to play and have a chance."

Kompany was also asked whether or not he had watched United's midweek comeback win over Sheffield United: "Yeah I did, it is my job...some would argue!"

"I think I watched in a neutral way. They have some very clear strengths. It is a team that has got some high-quality players in the final third. They do score goals because of it. They have had struggles with injuries so it changes a little bit the make-up of the team. When you play Man United you play a top team in this country. I think you should appreciate the challenge, but embrace it."
