The first leg takes place at Camp Nou, and a tricky task awaits Erik ten Hag’s men, with Barcelona currently top of La Liga and on a run of 11 straight wins across all competitions. Ahead of the clash, the Spanish media have been writing about some of United’s stars, and here we take a look at what has been said.

Harry Maguire

In a story about the United captain, Sport wrote: “The best example of what the English call ‘ a flop’. A multimillion signing that has not lived up to expectations. It happens when there is a big difference between the spending and the performances. It’s the case for Maguire, despite the fact he had plenty of opportunities when he signed, and also despite him being captain. He has never justified his fee.”

Casemiro

In a brief line about United’s summer signing Casemiro, Sport wrote: “Casemiro is one of the stand-out defenders in the Premier League in his first season with United.”

Alejandro Garnacho

New kid on the block Alejandro garnacho has won plenty of headlines of late. Diario AS wrote about the forward: “At 18 years of age, the Red Devils attacker is already pushing to start after his goals and assists. Garnacho is already the substitute who has produced the most for Manchester United with two goals and two assists. No one else has contributed as much as the Madrid-born youngster has.”

Marcus Rashford

Writing about United’s most in-form forward, Mundo Deportivo said: “Marcus Rashford is a great threat for Manchester United. The English striker arrives at Camp Nou in his best moment, and in great form following his return from the Qatar World Cup. No other player in the top European leagues as scored as many since the start of the year.

“From the restart from the World Cup, Rashford has played 15 games, scoring 13 and providing four assists. The 13 goals have also come in just 12 games. That’s to say, only on one occasion has he scored twice, against Charlton in the League Cup, while the rest have been games where he has scored once.

“The dual at Camp Nou arrives after Rashford scoring in his last three games consecutively, and he offers great hope for the Red Devils as they search for a positive result during their visit of Barcelona.”
