What Manchester United football structure under Ineos will look like after Dan Ashworth deal agreed
Manchester United's restructure of the football department is taking shape with a deal agreed for sporting director Dan Ashworth.

Hide AdUnited have been working on a deal to appoint the 53-year-old for several months now. It is understood they have finally agreed on a suitable compensation package with Newcastle to release him from his current role.
Ashworth could now begin work at Old Trafford immediately, after the threat he would remain on gardening leave until the end of 2025, with his arrival set to provide a key boost for the summer transfer window. He was identified as a top target by key figures at United after it was confirmed Ineos would take control of football operations following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment in the club.
Ashworth will be tasked with the overall responsibility of the club's football operations, from their style of approach on the pitch to their recruitment off it. He will also oversee all other football matters and ensure there is a clear long-term plan being adhered to at every level of the club, while also taking a lead on contract negotiations.

Hide AdImmediately, he will report to Sir Dave Brailsford, who has been reviewing the current football operations and will report to Omar Berrada once he arrives as chief executive on 13 July. While Ashworth's sole focus will be on sporting matters, Berrada's will essentially be on all of the business issues at Old Trafford, He will oversee sponsorship deals, and club infrastructure and continue to strengthen United's claim as the biggest football club in the world.
Another key addition has been technical director Jason Wilcox, who worked with Berrada during their time together at Man City. Wilcox will work with all technical areas of the football department to 'achieve the highest standards of performance' and will report directly to Ashworth.
As a result of Wilcox's arrival, club great Darren Fletcher will still work in the football leadership team, but in a new role across the men’s first team and academy. The Scot is highly-regarded within Old Trafford and going forward will act as a liaison between the youth set-up and help to identify player’s with potential to make an impact at senior level.
