Manchester United are reportedly eyeing up potential striking options for next season already. They see Burnley’s Wout Weghorst, who is currently out on loan at Besiktas, as a short-term option as they keep one eye on the bigger picture.

According to ESPN, one option the Red Devils are looking at is Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane. The England ace has been Spurs’ main source of goals for the past nine years but has never won a trophy with the London club.

The clock is ticking for Kane, 29, and he has a big decision to make on his future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium amid links to United. Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have also been credited with an interest in him over recent times, as per Bild.

Speaking near the end of last season, Kane provided an update about his plans, as per TEAMtalk: “Obviously my main focus is just finishing this season, first and foremost. We’re still in a competition for the top four and that’s where my focus lies. I can’t control what will happen in the future.

“It is a big year for everyone. Not just me. I want to be going into that tournament (World Cup) in the best form possible so it’s just about controlling what I can control and that’s doing what I have been doing the last few months. It’s important over the summer to stay focused and I look forward to a fantastic tournament.”

The forward seems to enjoy working under Antonio Conte and told the Evening Standard last summer: “He has worked really hard while he has been here, he’s a great guy, a really passionate man so whatever his decision is you have to respect it. But for sure I am enjoying it and I know the boys are enjoying working with him. I have said I am a big fan of his and we get on really well.”

Conte’s long-term future at Spurs is also up in the air and if he leaves at the end of this campaign could Kane follow? His contract expires in June 2024 meaning he has another season on top of this one. However, his current club won’t want to risk losing him for nothing and the summer window poses an opportunity for them to cash in a big fee, potentially from United if the reports they are keen are true.
