The 36-year-old is currently in charge of Derby County in the Championship and is looking to steer them out of the relegation zone in their remaining seven games.

Rooney is United’s all-time leading scorer with 253 goals, surpassing former Red Devils great Sir Bobby Charlton’s record (249) in 2017.

The 36-year-old now hopes that Marcus Rashford can ‘get his head out of his a***’ and break his tally.

“To get the record and be United’s highest goal scorer is f***ing massive,” Rooney added.

Rashford has come under fire for his poor performances for the club this season, with fans and pundits claiming he looks ‘uninterested’ when on the pitch.

The United no.10 has netted 93 goals in 297 appearances during his career at Old Trafford and will need to turn his form around significantly if he wants to break Rooney’s record.
