The Man Utd midfielder was a hero for his country in their opening match of Euro 2024.

Christian Eriksen issued the perfect response to a Danish football pundit who thought he should have been dropped for their opening match of the European Championship over the weekend.

The Manchester United midfielder has been one of the feel-good stories of the international tournament so far after he scored Denmark's goal in their 1-1 draw with Slovenia on Sunday, three years after he almost lost his life playing in the previous iteration of the competition.

Eriksen has been in fine form at international level since the end of the season, rolling back the years with a string of fine performances that have taken many people by surprise.

The 32-year-old only played a sporadic role for United across the previous campaign and looks set to leave the club this summer if an appropriate offer comes in for him.

Eriksen only made 12 Premier League starts last season and ahead of Denmark's opening match, expert Martin Mikkelsen told TV2 why he shouldn't have started the game. "It will not be an advantage for Denmark if Christian Eriksen starts tonight,” Mikkelsen said. “It would make sense to give him a wildcard role tonight as a substitute."

Eriksen quickly silenced his critic with his well-taken goal and after the 1-1 draw he was asked for his response to the comments. Speaking in the post-match mixed zone, the United midfielder said: “Let him watch the match again,” before he smiled and boarded the team bus.

Denmark are back in action when they face England at 5pm on Thursday.
