'Of course' - Victor Gyokeres responds to Manchester United rumours amid potential Ruben Amorim reunion
Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres insists he will remain in Portugal until the summer - despite speculation he will follow Rúben Amorim to Manchester United.
The Swede has been the most prolific forward in Europe this season with 23 goals in 18 games for his team, including a hat-trick in a 4-1 win over Manchester City. By comparison, United have scored just 12 league goals this season – only Everton, Crystal Palace and Southampton have scored fewer.
Gyökeres told beinSPORT: "These are rumours, nothing concrete. Of course, I want to finish the season at Sporting. I enjoy my time there. I don't feel stressed about making a change in the future. We'll see when the time comes.

"He [Amorim] probably already has strikers there. It's very sad that he left [Sporting], but of course, we understand the decision. He meant a lot to me, as he gave me an opportunity and helped me evolve a lot. Now we are looking forward to working with the new coach [Joao Pereira]."
The 26-year-old has a €100 million release clause in his Sporting contract but Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg suggested they would entertain offers between €60 and €70 million. He joined from Coventry for €20 million in 2023, ending his debut year in Portugal with 43 goals in 50 games, winning the 2023-24 Primeira Liga Player of the Year as his side won 29 of 34 games on their way to the title.
His goal tally under Amorim led to speculation he would follow the Portuguese head coach to Old Trafford, rumours which have been bolstered by the woes of United’s strikers this season. Rasmus Højlund has just one league goal in 418 minutes and Joshua Zirkzee has one league goal in 430 minutes.
Given Gyökeres’ impressive goalscoring record and his proven suitability in Amorim’s system, he could easily become a summer transfer target. It is unclear the impact United’s sporting director Dan Ashworth will have on any potential move for the Swede after he sold him for just £1 million in 2021 whilst he was the technical director at Brighton.
