Diogo Dalot and Scott McTominay could miss one of Manchester United’s upcoming Premier League games in October.

The pair have been mainstays in the team since Erik ten Hag took over at Old Trafford, with Dalot starting all seven league games this term, while McTominay has played in every match, starting six of the encounters.

But those records are under threat and the pair are likely to be forced to sit out one of the Red Devils’ upcoming games.

That’s because Dalot and McTominay have both accumulated four yellow cards from the first seven league matches of the term, meaning they are just one shy of an automatic one-game Premier League ban.

Should either receive a booking against Everton this weekend, for instance, they will be forced to miss the subsequent game against Newcastle United on 16 October.

United then face Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and West Ham United in the league before the end of the month.

Only two players have reached the five-booking threshold so far, with Joao Palhinha suspended for Fulham’s 4-1 loss to Newcastle last weekend, while Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ruben Neves won’t be involved when his side face Chelsea on Saturday.

Dalot and McTominay are among seven players currently on four bookings, with the cut-off point for an automatic one-match ban for five yellow cards coming after 19 Premier League matches. From that point on, it increases to 10 bookings in order to accrue a suspension.

Next on the list for United are Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes, both with three yellow cards, while Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez have received two cautions so far this season.
