Jack Fletcher and Ethan Wheatley both arrived with the Manchester United senior squad at Old Trafford ahead of their Premier League clash with Brentford.

United are back in action on Saturday afternoon and will need an improved performance and result if they are to ease the pressure on manager Erik ten Hag after a difficult start to the season. Ten Hag has been done no favours by the early team news for the match, with Kobbie Mainoo the latest injury setback, though Noussair Mazraoui, Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho all trained earlier this week.

United could well include some teenagers in their matchday squad to compensate for the injury issues, with Fletcher and Wheatley both spotted arriving at Old Trafford in the hours ahead of kick-off.

Wheatley made history last season when he became the 250th academy graduate to represent the United first-team when he featured from the bench against Sheffield United, while Fletcher, son of club great Darren, has never been involved in a senior matchday squad before.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Ten Hag said: "Injuries do not help, for sure, you need players available to perform. Kobbie and Harry are out for a couple of weeks, but Mazraoui is good news. He has returned on the training pitch and is available tomorrow."

Quizzed on the possibility of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both returning to action in the coming weeks, he added: "We can't force their return and have to do it clever. We don't want them to return and quickly drop out, but of course, we hope they come back as soon as possible because this team needs to a left-full back."
