Turkish giants Besiktas reportedly made a late move to take Manchester United youngster Hannibal Mejbri on loan. The 20-year-old Tunisian international spent the majority of last season on loan at Birmingham City and made 41 appearances for the Championship club before returning to Old Trafford at the end of the campaign.

Hannibal was not involved in Erik ten Hag’s matchday squad for United’s first three Premier League fixtures but was an unused substitute in Sunday’s 3-1 away defeat against Arsenal. Turkish outlet Fotospor have revealed Besiktas made a ‘surprise’ move to take the youngster on loan but this was rejected by United. It is not yet clear whether another offer will be made as the Turkish transfer deadline is not until Friday, September 15.

Onana’s international return questioned by former Cameroon star

Andre Onana’s return to the international scene will not end his issues with Cameroon manager Rigobert Song. That was the verdict of former Cameroon international Patrick Suffo as the United keeper prepares to earn his first cap since he started in his country’s opening game at last year’s World Cup Finals in Qatar.

Onana was suspended for what were described as ‘disciplinary reasons’ by Fecafoot, with the governing body later confirming the decision had been taken by Song. Former Indomitable Lions striker Suffo is unsure what lies ahead for Onana and Song as the United stopper looks to resume his international career.

He told BBC World Service: “”As far as being friends, I’m not very sure. I’m curious to see what’s going to happen once they start working together again. The player came out and denied it was (a) discipline (issue), so many people in Cameroon understood that it was maybe other problems.

“I believe (Onana) said he didn’t want to play while these guys were in charge of the team - Rigobert and the rest of the staff. I believe he is coming to play for Cameroon, not the manager or anybody else. That is sometimes a problem because you have to have the same view of football to be able to perform at the highest level.”
