It’s usually the busiest day in the football calendar: summer transfer deadline day.

After months of planning and negotiating, it all can come down to a few frantic hours, and historically Manchester United and Manchester City have been known to complete their business right up to the deadline.

Remember Dimitar Berbatov and Anthony Martial signing with just hours remaining? Or when Robinho arrived at Etihad and the crazy deadline of 2013 when City signed four first-teamers?

Well, 2021 could prove just as eventful...

When does the window close?

The transfer window for Premier League clubs closes on 31 August at 11pm. However, it can often take a few hours for paperwork and contracts to be fully signed, meaning transfers might not officially be confirmed until the early hours of 1 September.

Will Man Utd make any more signings?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer didn’t rule out any further additions after the Red Devils’ victory over Leeds United on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, although implied the club aren’t actively pursuing players at present.

“I think anything from now is a bonus,” Solskjaer told BT Sport. “I can’t say we’re going to do more. You never know in football, but that would be a bonus.”

United have been linked with a midfielder all summer, with the likes of Eduardo Camavinga, Ruben Neves, Leon Goretzka and Saul Niguez all touted as potential additions.

The Red Devils had also reportedly been interested in Kieran Trippier this summer, and are one of a number of clubs monitoring young Metz midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, according to the Daily Mail.

Few players are likely to leave United permanently in the next two weeks, although there could be several loan moves for youth players. Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira continue to be linked with moves away from Old Trafford, while Paul Pogba appears to be staying after another summer with speculation surrounding his future.

Will Man City make any more signings?

If Guardiola completes another transfer, it looks almost certain to be for Harry Kane. The Tottenham Hotspur striker has dominated the gossip columns for weeks, and sat out his side’s 1-0 victory over City on the opening weekend.

Guardiola has admitted the champions are keen to sign Kane, but a fee is yet to be agreed between the two clubs.

Excluding Kane, City have been linked with precious few other additions, with little discussion around who could be signed should they miss out on Kane.

There could still be a few departures from the Etihad before the window closes, with Guardiola confirming earlier this month that Bernardo Silva was one of a handful of players keen to get more game time elsewhere.

“Not just Bernardo, there are two or three players that want to leave but they are our players and when they bring some offer and they want to leave we are open to discuss but it depends on them," said the City boss.

The Red Devils have enjoyed one of their best summer windows to date and have added two high-calibre recruits in Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

The former made his debut in the 5-1 win over Leeds United, while Varane was unveiled to the Old Trafford crowd ahead of kick-off.

United have also brought in Tom Heaton as the club’s new third-choice goalkeeper, behind David de Gea and Dean Henderson.

Who have Man City signed so far?

It’s been a quiet window for the champions, who have only completed one first-team acquisition in Jack Grealish.

City made the former Aston Villa captain the Premier League’s first £100m transfer earlier this summer. The England international made his debut in the 1-0 Community Shield loss to Leicester City and featured a week later as City were again defeated by Spurs.
