At the age of just 19, Wharton has displayed a startling amount of maturity on the pitch. Not only is he a very hard worker with astute positioning and awareness, he is also adaptable, being able to function as a defensive midfielder, a central midfielder and as an attacking midfielder.
In addition to this, he is a brilliant passer of the ball, too. According to FBref, Wharton has played a total of 74 progressive passes over the course of 15 Championship appearances for Rovers this season. He hasn't scored a goal in England's second tier in the current campaign, but he has managed to notch up a solitary assist.

Interest in Wharton is high - he is in the sights of several other Premier League clubs, such as Brighton and Hove Albion, Everton and Newcastle United. With this in mind, it is likely that he could be the subject of a mass bidding war if these clubs are serious about pursuing a move for the player.
Due to this, United will need to fight if they wish to secure Wharton's signature. Tottenham recently snapped up Ashley Phillips from Blackburn in the summer transfer window - due to this, it is understood that the two clubs are currently on good terms and are happy to do business with each other.
