The five Manchester United winners and losers from Ruben Amorim appointment

Man Utd are working on a deal that would see Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim replace Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United hope to appoint Ruben Amorim as their next permanent head coach following the decision to sack Erik ten Hag at the start of the week.

United sources admit there are 'no excuses' for their poor start to the new Premier League season, that has seen the club fail to deliver with regard to performances as well as results.

Amorim is understood to tick more boxes than anyone else on Ineos' shortlist for the role, with his age, ability to work within a club hierarchy and recent track record are seen as attractive qualities for United. The 39-year-old is also seen as a manager who has a reputation of nurturing young talent, which is of huge importance.

Having forged his reputation utilising a 3-4-3 formation at Sporting, it will be fascinating to see just how differently United line up under their potential new manager. Here are the players who could be the biggest winners or losers from his arrival:

Manuel Ugarte - Winner

It was under Amorim that Ugarte established himself as one of the most exciting midfielders in Europe and earned his initial move to Paris Saint-Germain. After a fine performance against Fenerbahce last week, he could prove to be one of the stars of any new-look United side.

Antony - Loser

United's potential formation switch wouldn't really suit traditional wingers and it is hard to see Ten Hag favourite Antony getting much playing time under any new appointment.

Leny Yoro - Winner

Ten Hag might argue things would have been different had Yoro been fit this season, though it counts for nothing now. If United switch to a back three then their centre-backs will be crucial and Yoro could play an integral role when he returns to action next month.

Casemiro - Loser

If indeed Ugarte plays a key role under his former boss, then it would mean fewer opportunities for Casemiro. He is likely to leave the club next summer whatever happens next.

Diogo Dalot - Winner

Dalot was one of the most reliable players under Ten Hag but could take his game to another level playing under Amorim. His compatriot likes to utilise wing-backs and he could give Dalot the freedom he craves to contribute to the attack.

Matthijs de Ligt - Loser

De Ligt should still play a role going forward, but he has lost a key ally in his former Ajax boss. He's endured a mixed start to life at Old Trafford and it will be fascinating to see how he favours under a new head coach.

Rasmus Hojlund - Winner

It is clear Hojlund has all the raw components required to be a top striker and Amorim could help to piece them altogether. Viktor Gyökeres has notched 57 goals in 64 appearances under the coach, so he clearly knows how to get the best out of a striker.

Tyrell Malacia - Loser

Malacia is yet to return from injury and when he does, the man who pushed for his signing won't be there. He should still get some opportunities, but there won't be much sentiment from a new coach.

Amad Diallo - Winner

Ten Hag openly admitted Antony was ahead of Amad in the pecking order, and the Ivorian was on the bench again for his final game in charge against West Ham. His versatility and ability to play in a central role could make him a success under a new manager.

Jonny Evans - Loser

A key reason why Evans signed a contract extension was due to his own personal relationship with Ten Hag. A switch to a back three could still give him opportunities, but he is not a long-term option under Amorim.
