Erik ten Hag has labelled some of the coverage of Manchester United’s win over Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-final as a ‘disgrace’ considering that they have reached the final for the second year in succession.

United led 3-0 at Wembley Stadium heading into the final twenty minutes of the match, but conceded three goals without reply as the game was forced to extra-time.

Coventry had already done tremendously well to draw the game back level and looked to have won the tie when Victor Torp found the back of the net in the dying seconds of the match, only for it to be ruled out for offside.

United were let off the hook when they prevailed 4-2 in the subsequent penalty shootout, setting up another FA Cup final with fierce rivals Man City.

When asked about whether he understood why some supporters felt flat after the manner of their collapse, Ten Hag hit out at those who had labelled reaching another major final as an embarrassment.

"No. Absolutely not,” he told reporters at his press conference ahead of facing Sheffield United. “You made enough and one the question: "is it embarrassing? No, the reaction from you was embarrassing. It is the comments.”

When asked why the coverage was embarrassing, he added: “Top football is about results, we made it to a final and we deserved it not only by this game but also the other games. We lost control for 20 mins, we also had bad luck, 3-2, 3-3.

“We were very lucky in the end, clear. Penalties was very good and we made it to the final, it is a huge achievement. Twice, in two years- is magnificent. For me as a manager, four cup final in four years. The comments are a disgrace.”
