Ten Hag makes special gesture as Man Utd ace signs new deal - he did the same for Mainoo and Garnacho

Man Utd have signed another important deal at youth level and Erik ten Hag was there to see it.

Erik ten Hag made sure he was present as Manchester United youngster Toby Collyer signed a new deal with the club this week.

The 20-year-old penned a new deal until 2027, with the option of an additional year, on Thursday having caught the eye of Ten Hag during his reign at the club.

It is not the norm for the first-team manager to attend contract ceremonies for youth team players, but he also made the exception for Kobbie Mainoo when he was 17 and Alejandro Garnacho when he was 18, signifying a huge show of faith in Collyer.

Ten Hag is understood to be a huge fan of the defensive midfielder and is set to give the youngster an opportunity to impress in their first two pre-season friendlies next week.

Collyer is yet to make his senior United debut but has been named on the bench eight times under Ten Hag already and could play against Rosenborg in Torondheim on Monday. His only senior appearance came last summer when he played for a United academy side in their pre-season defeat to Wrexham.

United fought off serious competition when they signed Collyer from the Brighton academy in 2022 and he has been a regular in first-team training ever since Ten Hag's first few months at the club.
