Manchester United kick off another weekend of Premier League football when they travel to Southampton on Saturday.

The Red Devils were the final side in action during the last round of fixtures, when they beat Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford, giving Southampton an extra two days to prepare for the game.

But Erik ten Hag and his squad will be buoyed following their excellent win on Monday, which handed United their first points of the season.

After such a dismal start to the campaign, the Red Devils were well organised, committed, and in control against their fierce rivals. They also looked more effective in front of goal, netting twice from slick, speedy attacks.

It’s something United will need to continue against the Saints, who themselves grabbed a first win of the season last time out.

Southampton came from a goal down on Saturday to beat Leicester City 2-1, with Che Adams netting a brace for the south-coast club.

Casemiro should be available for United following his recent transfer from Real Madrid. The midfielder was presented on the pitch ahead of the win over Liverpool, and could be handed a debut on the south coast.

However, after such an impressive performance on Monday, Ten Hag may be tempted to stick with the midfield three of Scott McTominay, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes.

The United manager confirmed on Friday that Anthony Martial is missing with an Achilles problem, meaning Marcus Rashford could start up front again.

Cristiano Ronaldo is another option through the middle, although he will likely start on the bench again, as could captain Harry Maguire, and former Southampton man Luke Shaw.

Victor Lindelof is the only known injury concern ahead of the game for United, with the centre-back not featuring yet this season.

As for Southampton, defenders Tino Livramento and Romain Perraud are out through injury. Following his goalscoring exploits last week, Adams is expected to start up front.
