Manchester United are reportedly negotiating with Fiorentina over the possibility of Sofyan Amrabat joining the Red Devils on loan before Friday’s transfer deadline.

United have been keen on signing Amrabat for several weeks, and had hoped to sell enough players to fund the signing of the Moroccan international. However, deals for the likes of Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial have failed to materialise.

It means United may have to settle for a loan move, with The Athletic claiming negotiations are under way between the Premier League and Serie A sides. The outlet add that a ‘permanent deal unlikely because of United’s financial fair play situation’.

Meanwhile, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook claimed on Twitter that Amrabat has had other options this window, but has always preferred United.

The progress in negotiations comes just over 24 hours before Fiorentina’s crucial Europa Conference League play-off against Raid Wien, with the Italian side trailing 1-0 from the first leg last week. Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported Amrabat won’t play in the game and remains frozen out of the first-team picture by manager Vincenzo Italiano.

Erik ten Hag, who previously managed Amrabat at Utrecht, has wanted to reinforce his midfield throughout the transfer window. The Red Devils brought in Mason Mount from Chelsea at the beginning of July, but the need to sign a goalkeeper and striker have prevented United from adding another midfielder since.

The club are hopeful of securing a deal for Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce before the window closes, and would like to recruit another option at left-back following the injury of Luke Shaw last week.
