Sir Jim Ratcliffe learns of '£60m release clause' for major Man Utd target

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is planning a major rebuild at Manchester United this summer.

Manchester United might have to pay as much as £60m if they are to sign Michael Olise this summer with Crystal Palace unwilling to compromise on their winger's release clause, according to recent reports.

United were initially linked with a move for Olise in January, having 'identified' the French under-21 international as the first major arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe's tenure. Interest in the wide attacker has remained strong and is expected to return in the summer as part of a major rebuild.

Olise is expected to leave Palace ahead of next season, following another excellent campaign at Selhurst Park. But the 22-year-old will not come cheap and Italian outlet Calciomercato suggests a move could cost up to £60m.

Having rejected a move for Chelsea, who activated a £35m clause last summer, Olise penned a new four-year deal in August but that deal is also expected to contain an exit clause, which will come into play this summer. The report suggests its value will be 'between £55-60m' and adds that Palace will not entertain any offers below that number. With Olise tied down until 2027, Palace have no obligation to cut a deal and while there is seemingly an acceptance that he will move on, it will only happen on their terms. Olise has given no indication he will force a move but is keen to make the step up, ideally to play Champions League football.

Reports in January suggested he would prefer a move to United over previous suitors Chelsea, having supported the Reds as a youngster. And there will be space open on the right-wing, with Jadon Sancho unlikely to play for the club again, particularly if Ten Hag remains in charge beyond the summer.

Antony has also continued to frustrate and failed to score since opening his account for the season in the FA Cup win over Newport County. Offers will be entertained for the on-loan Facundo Pellistri while Amad Diallo is yet to nail down a first-team place. Olise currently has more goals this season than all four of the aforementioned United players combined this season.
