Sheffield Wednesday confirm appointment of former Man Utd and Arsenal man

Sheffield Wednesday have appointed a former Manchester United staff member as they look to escape Championship relegation.

Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed the appointment of a former Manchester United staff member as they look to secure Championship survival this season. It has been a hugely challenging campaign for the Owls, who sit bottom of the table with just two wins following promotion last season.

Wednesday made the controversial decision to move on from Darren Moore after he guided them to promotion, and his replacement, Xisco Munoz only lasted until early October. Danny Rohl has since been hired, and he has improved performances in his early weeks in charge, but Wednesday remain 10 points from safety as the halfway point in the season approaches.

In a bid to get things right long-term, the Yorkshire club have now appointed former Red Devils opponent analyst and scout Kevin Beadell, who also worked at Arsenal in a similar capacity before most recently spending time with Cardiff City as their chief youth scout.

He has now linked up with Wednesday, and Owls boss Rohl told the club website of his appointment: “I think the Head of Recruitment was a big topic in the past. For me, it was important to find a good guy who is a good match for me and the club.

“I had conversations with Kevin about my philosophy and the club spoke to him as well, and we had the same thoughts, that he was the right match for us. Everybody knows we have a big challenge and we have to prepare as good as possible and Kevin will be a key part.

“Everybody knows that our direction is teamwork, we will work together. He is a good human, he has a good CV and I think it’s a great match. When you look at our staff, you see good CVs and it’s important we have experienced guys here"

Rohl added: "It was a big topic before we chose Kevin, to find someone who knows the market immediately. He has a good connection to clubs, agents and players. He knows the market and the Championship very well.

“It’s a good step forward to have a new guy in this key position and we have to work together to find the right players for the future. It’s about building something for the future and it’s important that we have a guy who understands our philosophy and we find players able to do my style of football and then we can create an identity at the club. It’s time to work together to build something special.”
