Sergino Dest has already issued his verdict on a transfer amid links with Manchester United.

The Red Devils have been chasing one of Dest’s Barcelona teammates all summer in Frenkie de Jong, but they haven’t got far.

United are yet to convince de Jong to make the switch to Old Trafford, and amid reported interest from Chelsea, they could be about to miss out altogether.

That would leave Erik ten Hag in desperate need of midfielders, but he also wants to address a defensive issue, according to the latest reports.

Ten Hag has already strengthened at left-back, signing Tyrell Malacia, and also centre-back, signing Lisandro Martinez.

But the right side could also do with some attention amid uncertainty over Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future.

The former Crystal Palace star hasn’t convinced Ten Hag, according to reports, and the Dutchman is now searching for options.

According to Sport’s paper edition, Barca star Dest has emerged as one of the lead candidates, having worked with Ten Hag in the past.

Dest did not impress Xavi Hernandez last season in what was a disappointing campaign for the Blaugrana.

He was not overly convincing defensively, and he wasn’t quite dangerous enough when playing in a more advanced position.

But Dest is still only 21 years of age, and he was not only adapting to a new system under Xavi, but he was also playing in a Barca side that was disappointing in all areas of the pitch.

For now, he is still determined to improve, and he seemed to rule out a transfer in an interview with ESPN earlier this summer.

“I am happy at Barcelona, in the club. Definitely, I will stay here,” he said.

“I believe that we cannot play in the Europa League anymore. We have a lot of talent. We are trying to create a new generation and this takes time.”

United might just have to look elsewhere.
