Scott McTominay issues fresh verdict on Erik ten Hag after Liverpool vs Man Utd

Scott McTominay has been speaking about Erik ten Hag and Manchester United's efforts against Liverpool.

Manchester United star Scott McTominay is backing his manager Erik ten Hag after Sunday's goalless draw with Liverpool at Anfield. United made the trip to Merseyside on the back of a disappointing week, losing to Bournemouth in the Premier League and then crashing out of the Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munich.

But they stood up to the task against Liverpool - who led the league heading into the weekend - drawing 0-0. The result will ease pressure on Ten Hag, who has come under serious pressure this season having failed to progress his squad from last season despite the club spending around £200million on new signings during the summer.

Though, the Dutchman does have some people in his corner, and United midfielder McTominay is one of them, despite the Scot being pushed towards the exit door during the summer window.

McTominay, who has arguably been United's most consistent performer so far this season, said after the game when asked about his and United's situation: "You never know in football, there's always things that can happen. I do my best, I don't care what anyone else thinks. I said we're behind the manager, he's a great manager who can lead us to great things. I think this is a building block as well."

Asked about the Liverpool clash, the Scotland international admitted he and his teammates were pleased with the draw given the injury problems United were facing heading into the game.

"We've got a number of injuries," he added. "We knew it was going to be tough. We had to stay calm and stick together. We're a bit disappointed we can't have shots but we're pleased not to lose.

"It's always a hot start when you come here, we can't forget about last year. The young players conducted themselves well. It's the biggest honour of my career captaining this club once and then twice. I'm thankful to be in this position."
