Ex-Manchester United footballer Ryan Giggs will not face a retrial on domestic abuse charges after the case against him was dropped.

At Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday prosecutor Peter Wright KC said the Crown Prosecution Service would not be pursuing the case against the former Wales manager.

The 49-year-old had been accused of controlling or coercive behaviour towards his ex-girlfriend Kate Greville, assaulting her and of the common assault of her sister Emma.

After a first trial failed to reach a verdict, he was scheduled to go on trial for a second time on July 31.
