Ruben Amorim names two Manchester United 'heroes' from Arsenal FA Cup win

Man Utd defeated Arsenal on penalties in the third round of the FA Cup after an heroic defensive display.

Ruben Amorim singled out both Joshua Zirkzee and Altay Bayindir as two Manchester United heroes from their FA Cup victory over Arsenal on Sunday evening.

United played for over an hour with 10 men after Diogo Dalot had been sent off in the second half but held on to take the game to a penalty shootout, which they won without missing a single effort from the spot.

Bayindir saved a Martin Odegaard penalty to keep his side level in normal time and produced another fine stop from the spot in the shootout to deny Kai Havertz. It set the stage for Joshua Zirkzee to be the matchwinner, a moment he took with style as he sent David Raya the wrong way.

United will now host Leicester at home in the fourth round of the FA Cup and Amorim was delighted by the performance of two players who have faced plenty of criticism in recent weeks. "It is really important, not just for them, but for all the players," he told reporters after the win.

"Your life as a footballer has cycles and moments. Sometimes in one week, your life can change. You can see Altay, against Tottenham everybody was pointing the finger, and I understand that. Today, he was our hero. Joshua, a few weeks ago, had a small problem with our fans and today, every time he goes on the pitch you feel that support from the fans. He has the last penalty, life is like that. You have to continue humble, work every day, your time will come. It is really important for them, but also for his teammates."
