Ruben Amorim names issue Alejandro Garnacho has at Manchester United amid transfer interest
Man Utd could sell academy graduate Alejandro Garnacho in the final days of the January transfer window.
Ruben Amorim admits he does not know the best position for Alejandro Garnacho in his Manchester United squad ahead of a possible exit in the January transfer window.
The Argentine kept his starting place in United's late win over Fulham on Sunday night and was arguably their best attacking performer in an underwhelming team performance.
Garnacho has started just eight of their 15 matches since Amorim took charge back in November and does not appear to have an obvious role in their starting line up since their recent tactical change. The 20-year-old was a regular on the wing under Erik ten Hag but lost his position in the side following their switch to a 3-4-2-1 formation that utilises wing-backs and attacking midfielders instead.
United aren't actively looking to sell Garnacho before transfer deadline day but accept it might be the right time to cash in on the academy graduate due to the fact any fee received would be classified as pure profit from a financial point of view. Chelsea are expected to submit a formal bid for him this week while Napoli are also interested in a potential move.
Speaking after their weekend win over Fulham, Amorim refused to be drawn on the youngster's forward but admitted he did not have an obvious role in his side. "That, nobody knows. Anything can happen," he told reporters. "He is improving in every department of the game, the way he recovers, the understanding of the game when he defends. I am trying to find the best position for him. Today he played a little bit more open, not so much inside. We need guys with the one-against-one. I don't know what is going to happen until the end of the window."
