Man United are set to see four players leave due to their contracts expiring in the summer transfer window.

Man United are preparing for the latest Manchester derby this weekend as they welcome rivals Man City to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, hoping to get back to winning ways.

They lost last time out to Nottingham Forest as Anthony Elanga scored the only goal of the game against his former team. Ruben Amorim will now be hoping to see an improvement against City.

Midfielder Christian Eriksen didn’t start for United on Tuesday night, but he did come on as a substitute. The Danish international is set to leave the club at the end of the season with his contract expiring in June.

Ajax “stands out” for Christian Eriksen

The midfielder joined Man United after a brief spell at Brentford following his return to England after suffering a cardiac arrest during a Euro 2020 game for the Danish national team.

He began his career at Dutch side Ajax and could be set to return there this summer as he becomes a free agent. Man United are not expected to extend his contract at Old Trafford and so he will be free to leave for the Dutch side.

According to former Man United scout Mick Brown, Ajax “stands out” as the club of most interest to Eriksen. He told Football Insider: “He’s come to the end of his time at Man United.

“He is a talented player and still has things to offer, but he’s slowing down physically and I’m not sure he can still cut it in the Premier League. There are no talks planned about a new contract, and Amorim has agreed to his exit, so he’ll be assessing his options now.

“I don’t think there will be a shortage of interest, but one that stands out is Ajax. He’s very well-suited to Dutch football, it would allow him to play at a less intense pace. And it’s a club he knows well where he’s still well thought-of, so it looks like that would be the perfect move at this stage of his career for him to wind down.”

Eriksen previously spent four years at Ajax at the start of his career, making 163 appearances with 32 goals and providing 65 assists. He then moved to Tottenham in a career-defining move in 2013.

Jonny Evans is due to leave Old Trafford after his second spell with the club at the age of 37. It is unclear as to what his career plans are after leaving United, whether retirement is on his mind.

Fellow defender Victor Lindelof is also set to leave after eight years with the club, despite the fact that he has seen more minutes recently, the Swedish defender has made just eight Premier League appearances.

Back-up goalkeeper Tom Heaton is also due to leave the club and is expected to retire with a potential future in coaching on the cards.
