Roy Keane slams Man Utd 'insanity' and calls out two underperforming stars after Newcastle defeat

Roy Keane has been speaking about Manchester United and a couple of their underperforming stars.

Roy Keane has slammed two Manchester United stars after another disappointing defeat over the weekend. The Red Devils were narrowly beaten away to likely European qualification rivals Newcastle United, adding to a two-goal collapse and Champions League draw during the week. However, the 1-0 scoreline at St James' Park flattered Erik ten Hag's side.

United are now in seventh place, out of the Carabao Cup and facing a huge task to progress in the Champions League. Ten Hag remains in place, but pressure is building for the Dutchman, and indeed some of his players.

Marcus Rashford has received criticism aplenty for his performances this season, and Anthony Martial hasn't won over many of his critics after an inconsistent run of form over recent years. Discussing both players, Keane told Sky Sports: "He’s (Rashford) a local lad, he’s got the mega deal and that is all well and good. I need a bit more - you run forward but you have to run back. Cover yards. He’s 26 now, he’s not a child anymore.

"He’s got to set the example. Is he on his own? Absolutely not. He’s one of the experienced players in that dressing room and if he’s not setting the example. We mentioned Martial and I know he’s an easy target.

"We forgive Martial when he scores a goal every 14 years. But if we’re 1-0 down to Newcastle and we put the ball into the box for you, you better get hold of that ball and get us up the pitch. But he’s just touching it and giving it away cheaply. I’m thinking, ‘You might as well go down the leagues’. Man United were trying to get rid of him a few years ago."

Speaking about United generally, Keane said: "United are drifting, how many times do I have to say it? They’re not as talented as they think they are. Their body language, I don’t see it. It’s not good reading at the moment. The amount of goals, six at City, four at Brentford, it’s not good. They’re in a tough place, the manager is under pressure. What is the sign of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."
