Cristiano Ronaldo reported for his first day of work at Manchester United in 12 years on Tuesday, as the club’s new signing joined in with a first-team session.

The 36-year-old rejoined the Red Devils last week and was allowed to leave Portugal’s international camp early and travel to Manchester after a suspension ruled him out of the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan.

United’s official website confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that Ronaldo was at their Carrington training ground and had met manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

This reunion was captured by their club photographer, as was his training session a few hours later, Ronaldo’s first as a United player since 2009.

Who else was training?

With many of the team’s international stars away with their respective national teams, it was a reduced number during the session.

Juan Mata, Diogo Dalot, Donny van Beek, Nemanja Matic, Fred, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Dean Henderson and Mason Greenwood all appeared in a video which soon accompanied the news article.

Interestingly, Ronaldo didn’t seem to be involved in a small-sided game and appeared to be training on his own at various points.

Jadon Sancho was also involved after he was sent home early from international duty with a knock, indicating he may be fully fit for Saturday’s game with Newcastle United.

Will Ronaldo play on Saturday?

The fact he seemed to be training by himself isn’t a good indication on that front, nor is the fact Ronaldo has played 90 minutes just once in the last two months.

However, Solskjaer and United love a bit of romance, so don’t be surprised if he’s involved in some form against the Magpies at Old Trafford.
