Rio Ferdinand has made a bold claim about Manchester United’s season, agreeing with Roy Keane in the process.

It has been an interesting campaign for the Red Devils, who look likely to land a top four finish. But that’s not all, with Erik ten Hag’s men already winning the Carabao Cup, while they remain in with a chance of winning both the Europa League and the FA Cup. Meanwhile, Arsenal have the opportunity to win just one title this term, but aside from the Champions League, it’s the biggest prize on offer to any English club.

The Gunners are currently top of the Premier League and battling it out with Manchester City as they look to claim top prize. Though, they have let a healthy lead fade over recent weeks, with the title now in the hands of both Arsenal and City, depending on who wins the clash between the two.

Arsenal have come on leaps and bounds since last season when they missed out on a top four finish at the death, but anything less than a Premier League title may now feel like a let-down, given the advantage they once held at the top.

According to Sky Sports pundit Keane, second place would make for a ‘terrible season’ for the Gunners.

“No chance. They’ve been top of the table all season. It would be a terrible season,” said the former midfielder. “They’re out of every cup competition. 2-0 up this week, 2-0 up today. It’s a huge disappointment.”

Those comments have predictably caused a stir among Arsenal fans, but Ferdinand agreed on his own show on Monday, while also bringing United into the conversation by claiming the Red Devils could yet have a better season than Mikel Arteta’s men.

He quizzed on his Vibe with Five YouTube show: “If you’re a player, forget fans, and you finish third and win a trophy, Carabao Cup whatever it is and the team above you finish second and win no trophies, who is the happier player?”
