The Manchester United and Manchester City forwards shar certain similarities, something Hojlund was asked about.

Rasmus Hojlund has said he does not want to be compared to Manchester City star Erling Haaland, who is in a ‘class of his own’.

The pair have drawn comparisons in recent months due to their impressive goal records at a young age and because both have a remarkable blend of physical strength and incredible pace. Of course, the duo play in Manchester, are Scandinavian, began their careers in Nordic countries, spent time playing in Austria, and even in terms of appearance there are some similarities.

Yet Hojlund has insisted that he does not want to be likened to the ex-Borussia Dortmund striker at this fledgling stage of his career, with Haaland already achieving so much in such a short period of time in England.

“I would rather not be compared to him - he is in a class of his own,” the Manchester United striker told Norwegian outlet TV2. “I hope that one day I can reach his level.

“Erling in any case is the world's best striker, if not, the world's best footballer. I don't really want to be compared to him, but I hope one day I can be like him.”

Hojlund joined United this summer and has registered three goals in his first eight appearances, with all of those strikes coming in the Champions League. Yet, it’s more than the 20-year-old’s goals that have impressed - his link-up play, ability to hold the ball up, and clever movement off the ball have also given United fans early hope.

Meanwhile, after his record-breaking 52-goal haul last term, Haaland has scored eight in 12 appearances in 2023/24, all of which have come in the Premier League. The strikers will come face to face in the Premier League for the first time later this month, when City travel to Old Trafford for the opening Manchester derby of the campaign.
