Marcus Rashford’s loan deal at Aston Villa expires at the end of the season with a £40m buy option on the table.

Ruben Amorim made the bold call earlier this season to drop Marcus Rashford from his Manchester United squad and force the striker to seek a loan move in the January transfer window.

Rashford joined Aston Villa and United are said to have negotiated a £40 million buy option in his deal, should Unai Emery decide he wants to keep Rashford beyond this season. The England international currently has three goals and five assists for Villa in 14 games in somewhat of a resurgent spell for him.

However, seeing as it has not been confirmed whether Villa will decide to buy Rashford permanently, there is a chance that he could return to Old Trafford in the summer, when he would likely be sold elsewhere.

Crystal Palace line up shock Rashford move

After what has been a relatively successful loan spell for Rashford, United likely won’t struggle to sell him elsewhere if Aston Villa opt against adding him on a permanent basis this summer.

Fresh reports have emerged suggesting that fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace are keen to sign the 27-year-old. According to the Sun, Palace are closely monitoring Rashford’s situation and wants to talk with the player this summer.

An unnamed source told the newspaper: “Palace are keeping a very close eye on Rashford and what happens with Villa and United. There is a good buzz around the club at the moment and someone like Marcus is exactly the kind of player they would love to attract.

“They know they would have to keep onto their better players to try and persuade Marcus to move to South London.”

It could be tough for the Eagles to hold onto the likes of Adam Wharton, Eberechi Eze, Jean-Philippe Mateta all three of which have been linked to Man United this summer after what has been an impressive second half to the season for Oliver Glasner’s side.

If they can, they may be able to tempt Rashford to Selhurst Park with the promise that they are targeting a push for European football next season much like the season that the likes of Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest and Fulham have had this year.

What does Rashford’s future at Villa look like?

It has been a better showing from the England international since he moved to Villa Park, as he looks re-energised and re-motivated in Emery’s Villa side.

There has not been an indication about whether Villa are considering paying the £40m release clause for Rashford, however, the manager has been full of praise for the striker since he moved to the Midlands in January.

Emery told Sky Sports after signing Rashford: “I think his potential is huge potential to exploit. I am very happy to try to exploit and help him recover his performances, individually and collectively. My challenge with him is huge. His challenge with us is exciting.”
