Jesse Lingard’s future at Manchester United seems to have been all but confirmed by interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

The German, while signing autographs for fans after the club’s 1-0 over West Ham United on Saturday, was asked by United fan @Phezthered what the latest was on his ‘favourite player’ Lingard.

Rangnick surprisingly gave the supporter an update on the Red Devils no.14, saying on the video: “Well, he’s going to leave in the summer anyway."

This is an interesting update considering Lingard is said to be working on departing the club during the January transfer window.

According to BBC Sport’s Simon Stone, United have turned down offers from Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham, the club Lingard spent the second half of last season with, as they see the Hammers as a ‘top-four threat’.

Newcastle United could also be out of the race for the 29-year-old after reports from the Daily Mail claim the Red Devils and Magpies have ‘failed’ to agree terms.

They add that Newcastle are hesitant to pay a loan fee, the midfielder’s full wages and ‘substantial bonuses’ if they remain a Premier League club come May - a total cost of more than £15m for their Saudi owners.

Lingard hasn’t featured regularly this campaign, making only 14 appearances under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Rangnick.

If given a move before the summer, the 29-year-old will be hoping to replicate the form he found while with West Ham in the second half of last season, where he netted nine goals and got five assists.
